Any suggestions for the wording of the question?
"How can the use of incentives encourage attendance, promote academic achievement, and decrease discipline related disruptions in the classroom at a campus where there are currently no school-wide incentive policies in place for individual teacher use?"
We currently have no classroom incentives. Our discipline management program is Time to Teach. This is a reflective process rather than a rewarding process. I think it might work better with older students, yet our district uses it solely district wide.
I will try to have my Part 2 posted later today!

I like your research. I have never been at a school that does not provide incentives for students. I know that some teachers and others who disagree with incentives, but I truly believe that incentives are a big part of motivation for students. The school that I am currently at gives incentives every six weeks and big incentives at the end of each semester. For example, our principal gives out McDonald's coupons for a free burger meal or a free pan pizza from Pizza Hut for students making the A Honor Roll. We have a movie day for our 2nd through 5th grade at the end of every 2nd six weeks for students who make the AB honor roll and have no office referrals. At the end of each semester we have a drawing for an Ipad for students who have perfect attendance. Good luck and I want to see how your research is going.
ReplyDeleteWe have had A/AB certificates and coupons from Dairy Queen and a few more six weeks rewards. However, this past year especially, I had a number of students who would have one C that would disqualify them. I am willing and able to pick up my own gift certificates at McDonald's, Taco Bell, etc in order to recognize children who are not causing discipline issues in my class and working their behinds off yet still falling a little short on the grade situation. Math facts are a really big deal for fourth grade. Again, some of my kids know the math facts like the back of their hand, but have a trouble translating it into word problems. I guess I am mainly looking for some way to recognize them ALL at some point regardless of test scores and reports cards.
